I have to say though that some of the reasons, such as &quot;You don&#039;t have a choice about team members&quot; and &quot;You&#039;re supposed to contribute technically to the project&quot; should be on this list. IMO, choosing the team members by the Project Manager is a luxury not all managers can afford to give to the project manager: Imagine a company working on several projects and one project manager wanting all the best resources on his project, thus starving the rest of the projects. This is simply not practical. Now about the technical contribution, it is not bad to contribute moderately to the project (such as coaching), but this can be easily abused if the Project Manager is supposed to spend most of his time working on the project rather than managing it, the sign is that the Project Manager is allocating tasks to himself.
